I went to the Balmoral Burn fun run the other day. 1km ascent. It’s not too steep but steep enough to kill a 30 yo smoker.
There are certain times when you feel out of place. It could be the cheap clothes in a corporate lift, realising your car is at least 15 years older than everyone else’s or my boyfriend realising he was the only guy in the cinema watching the latest Richard Gere film.
Today, I felt like the fatter person amongst skinny friends. I’ve gained 20kg since finishing studies, but I’m not THAT fat. I am, however, very unfit compared to the others from work who turned up for the fun run.
Steps to my self improvement:
- Give up smokes
- Cut out the fried foods and stop overeating.
- Join a gym (costing me money, so may as well go = self psychobabble)
- Stop weighing myself and observe lung strength and looser clothing.
Two months later, I’m still stuck on step 4. I think my clothes are looser, but I can’t tell. My bathroom scales were borrowed and not returned, so that part’s easier. I need to focus on routine and let time pass. I don’t think I’m vain, but I have been looking at myself in the large mirror a lot lately.
There are some celebrities like Magda Szubanski who have joined dieting programs to assist in their weightloss, but I have seen a lot of fads and gimmicks. I used to watch late night TV infomercials and memorise the dialogue.
“Sick and tired of exercising and dieting without results?” with testimonials “I lost 5kg in 5 minutes”… blah blah blah.
From information I’ve found, I think I’m using the right steps. The idea here is to turn my metabolism into a thinner, fitter person’s which will burn more energy per day, even when I’m resting.
Hormones, heartrate, muscle density, energy consumption moderation, posture, stamina, strength and mentality. I had seen results in the past and I feel I’ll see results again. I’m uploading the latest Chariots of Fire remix onto my MP3 player.
